Between August 6, 2009, and August 10, 2009, Taiwan was hit by Typhoon Morakot, which brought about unprecedented rainfall and flooding across the country. Kaohsiung County saw over 2,500 millimeters of rainfall within three days. Many people died in this devastating flooding incident. Huge damage occurred to the infrastructure, including in the
valley of Laonong River.
