When the Bible refers to us as sheep, it’s not exactly a compliment. Sheep aren’t known for being particularly intelligent or self-sufficient. Even so, we may think of Psalm 23, the most iconic sheep-shepherd analogy of all, as being simple and idyllic. In reality, it’s a message of warfare.
