Genesis 1 and 2, a contradiction or a completion?

Genesis1 says birds were made out of the water, Genesis 2 says they were made out of dirt.
Gen1 says animals were made before man while Gen 2 says they were made after man.
Is this a contradiction or does Genesis 2 complete Genesis 1?
