Russia and Putin have all the aces. Germany and other European countries are heavily dependent on Russian gas through state owned company Gazprom. It leaves the door wide open for Russia to invade Ukraine and leave countries like Germany standing there doing nothing because if Russia cuts gas to Europe then Europe freezes.
