Laura Branigan is an American singer originally from New York State. Dance hits performed by her reigned in the radio airwaves of Germany and other countries of continental Europe throughout the 1980s. If Branigan's popularity in the USA turned out to be low, then in the European market she managed to gain a foothold as one of the most successful performers of the decade. Her hallmark was the disco-style hit "Self Control" from the 1984 album of the same name. Branigan's music and stage image served as a model for many European projects of those years.
