- Hosea 5 - Israel is defiled, they are idol worshipers, they do not know the LORD,
- 6 “With their flocks and herds They shall go to seek the LORD, But they will not find Him; He has withdrawn Himself from them.
- Here you have people seeking for God but they can't find him...?
- 2 After two days He will revive us; On the third day He will raise us up, That we may live in His sight. - I thought this was interesting - three days raise us up... not saying direct connection but interesting,
- Famous quote: 6 For I desire mercy and not sacrifice, And the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings.
- - God is merciful and gracious,
- Psalm 139: 1-6
- Search me and know me, (Fearfully and wonderfully made) God is a master builder and artist,
- MacArthur's note nothing inside of us can be hidden from God,
- Proverbs 29:19 - Sometimes just talking about problems is not enough
- 1 John 5:1-21 -
- 2By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and keep His commandments.
- Love for God's commands is a love for God because they are a reflection of his righteous character,
- Born of God, overcomes the world, again look at how the word world here is used, we have continual triumphant victory according to MacArthur's note here,
- 10He who believes in the Son of God has the witness in himself; he who does not believe God has made Him a liar, because he has not believed the testimony that God has given of His Son.
- To disbelieve God or his word, is to call him a liar,
- Have the Son have life, do not have the Son do not have life, again John summarizes similar to John 20:31, I have written that you may know you have eternal life, in vs 13 here,
- 19We know that we are of God, and the whole world lies underthe sway of the wicked one.
- If the whole world lies under the sway of the wicked one this can't include all people as John is making the point that the believer is an overcomer of the world hence the word world does not mean all people and the point is the believer has a new nature🙂
