ESL Class: Fill-in-the-blank in a reading passage

The mother of one of our DreyerCoaching high school students in Beijing gave us a test paper that is used in some English classes in China. It consists of a passage about a principal who used to take great care of his students, then as an older man, he got cancer and some students returned to look after him.

For each blank, the test offers 4 words and the student is to pick the best word for each blank. This test is difficult for non-native speakers. We discuss line by line and determine what would be the best word to put in each blank.
