Spanking Children as a Punishment

Is spanking children as a punishment godly and something Jesus commands us to do, as parents?

Whenever we read the Old Testament, we need to read it in light of what Jesus did on the cross - on His Finished Work on the cross. We need to remember that we are His disciples and we made the commitment to follow Him, meaning, to do what *He commands us to do.

He teaches us in His Word to us, the New Testament of the Bible, that we do not follow the Law of God given to Moses for the children of Israel, but we are to pick up our own cross, let go of all the things we think are right, and choose to do the things He tells us are right - and spanking children as a punishment is not one of them.
