Historically, Canada has accommodated conscientious beliefs as a matter of individual freedom protected in the Charter. What may appear to be a simple choice could, for some, be a deeper question of identity. As Martin Luther declared, “to go against conscience is neither right nor safe.”
Recognizing that we will not all agree, Barry urges respect as we allow each other to make our voices heard.
