Psalms have both a communal and personal function. The people of Israel would take the words of Psalms and make them their own.

David’s position as king, transition slow afraid of Saul, he aware of prophesy and anointing of king. Gave him confidence/trust because he believed word of God.

As God’s kids, we have value in heaven, remember God’s promise to us.

VI. Practical Application lets apply Psalm 56, YMMV

1 Be gracious to me, O God [expectation that God is gracious despite problem]
2- my enemies trample upon me all day long,
for many fight against me proudly.

Evil doers often not only seem to get the goods, but they boast about it. Pride in sin is vicious.

3 When I am afraid,
I put my trust in thee.
4 In God, whose word I praise,
in God I trust without a fear.
What can flesh do to me?

First remedy to the ill of evil and tyrants. Trust in God and praise Him with my words. Song, speaking in tongues.

2 Chron 20:20 Jehoshaphat battle overwhelming odds, send worshippers first. Think of my goodness first. Turns trials.

5 All day long they seek to injure my cause;
all their thoughts are against me for evil.

6 They band themselves together, they lurk,
they watch my steps.

Sometimes, it is hard for good people, to acknowledge the evil present in the world. We don’t understand their motivations and thought processes. This ignorance leaves us and those entrusted to us vulnerable. We are to be wise as serpents and gentle as doves. Mat 10:16
