Sunday Longplay - Arkanoid (NES)

This week on Sunday Longplay, we're going back to the first year of the Nintendo Entertainment System with a twist on an arcade classic. Welcome to Arkanoid on the NES!

The starship Arkanoid has fallen under attack by an interstellar entity named Doh, and a small paddle-shaped craft named Vaus is ejected from the Arkanoid to fight Doh. This game expands on the formula set by the arcade game Breakout, where you control a paddle to bounce a ball around a playing field breaking a set of colorful patterned blocks. While Arkanoid follows the same basic formula, it also adds numerous elements to it including enemies that obstruct your path and numerous different power-ups including one that doubles the length of your paddle, one that adds a laser cannon to your paddle, one that splits the ball into 3 pieces, and even one that opens a warp gate out of the level. There is also a boss fight against Doh himself at the very end of the game. The end result is a simple but fast and addicting game!
