The [Gnostic] Injil pt2. Why did Mohammed not preserve it?

Qur’anic references to the Injīl (Gospels, or gnostic Gospels?) is a common theme in Christian-Muslim conversation and debate. Sometimes it appears to suggest common ground and Christians are hopeful that Qur’anic approval of the Injīl will encourage Muslims to take the New Testament seriously. On other occasions it arises as a point of polemical contention with accusations by Muslims of corruption (taḥrīf) of the Christian text. Whichever view prevails, it is clear that a proper understanding of Qur’anic references to the Injīl is vital for Muslim-Christian dialogue today.
