I hope he is right. But he's assuming we are dealing with people (in charge of the government) who can think logically.
I don't think we are, unfortunately. I don't think they think with this line of logic.

Because:
They've got everything to lose. And everything to gain (or retain).
People like that can push the entire world to the brink of disaster and think nothing of it. They can do it before breakfast and do it again in the afternoon, if need be.
