Irrational at the core. When your political beliefs are not based upon rational thought, but primarily on emotion, you can't act sensibly when those beliefs are called into question. You cannot tolerate them being questioned in any at all, and you then react in the most bizarre ways.
It's much worse or becomes a highly aggravated situation when you have nothing else but those political beliefs, because you have no inner spiritual depth, or anything that transcends those shallow political beliefs.
