Most umbrellas these days are of the cheaply made standard folding variety. Not so here. Priced at just £19.99 on Amazon this brolly from Jooayou has a unique reversed folding mechanism that keeps the wet side of the brolly folded inwards to keep you and your surroundings dry when back inside.

The 110 cm 500G umbrella arrived in a huge Amazon shipping box within which was the brolly itself protected by voluminous amounts of wrapping paper and a slip-on waterproof cover. No paperwork or other items were included. Mine has a chic l Sunflower style design but a range of 22 plain and colourful designs are also available.

The ultraviolet proof umbrella has a Rubberized Plastic handle and ferrule with the C shaped handle allowing the wrist to be inserted for hands-free use. The specially designed reversing mechanism of the eight rib reinforced lightweight fibreglass frame means that the umbrella can never be blown inside out and in the very strongest winds will simply fold back in on itself as it does when not in use allowing it to be reopened again in the normal way. It is covered with a high-density double layer of Pongee fabric, which I have never heard of but which I am told is designed to be both water repellent and quick drying. The water just beads and flows off the skin rather than soaking through as happens with old style fabrics.

Build quality seems excellent with nothing looking likely to break or fail anytime soon and it all seems well made, robust and built to last.

The brolly has a single quick-release button to unfurl with a simple pull and click to close and lock. There was no struggle to engage the return lock as I have found with other brollies. A retaining strap holds the brolly tightly closed when furled.

This uniquely designed umbrella should keep you dry when others don't and the reverse folding mechanism should keep your home drip-free too!
