Principles of quantum mechanics allow energy to emerge from a total vacuum provided that this energy is re-absorbed in a short time. Phenomena enabled by this have been measured experimentally. In this video, we discuss the calculated energy per volume caused by the inherent fluctuation of the vacuum.
Using an extremely small dimension known as the Planck Length in our calculation, this energy (anywhere in the Universe) is found to be 10 to the 108th exponential power Joules per Cubic Centimeter! The capture of even a very small amount of this energy by a physical device may explain claims of "overunity".
