I’m Not Bonded with My Stepson—and I feel bad about it!

People often post about stepmoms who are too engaged and need to disengage.

I seem to have the opposite problem where I have trouble engaging.

I keep my stepson (who’s only with us every other weekend) at arm’s length because it’s hard for me to see him as anything other than a negative reminder of my partner’s past.

It’s also challenging because:
1️⃣ he’s not with us very often
2️⃣ he’s only 13 years younger than me so I don’t see him as a cute little kid, rather I see him as this annoying teenager who is a physical reminder of my boyfriend’s ex and who disrupts our lives every other weekend.

Any advice as to how to shift this negative mindset?
