No. You Can't Do This!

Can police officers shoot a fleeing felon? Answer: No. Not unless that suspect is in the act of threatening someone with death or great bodily harm at the time the police officer shoots. Under Tennessee v. Garner the U.S. Supreme Court held deadly force would be justified only if "it is necessary to prevent the escape and the officer has probable cause to believe that the suspect poses a significant threat of death or serious physical injury to the officer or others."
