UK girl who waited years for charities to start accepting AFROS has finally had hers chopped off

A girl who waited years for hair charities to start accepting AFROS has finally had hers chopped off - and helped make wigs for four kids in need.

Poppy Lee-Burrowes hoped to give away her locks to make wigs when she was five.

But at the time the Little Princess Trust said it was unable to make wigs from afro hair.

It provides real hair wigs to children who have lost their own through cancer treatment or other reasons.

Undeterred Poppy spent the next six years growing it in case this changed - and last year it did.

In April the charity announced it was now able to make wigs using afro hair.

Poppy, from Rhondda Cynon Taf, Wales, was yesterday (Weds) finally able to make her wish come true.

She donated a startling 12 inches of hair and raised over £2,500 for a good cause.

The whole family, Poppy and her mums Jessica Lee-Burrowes and Beki LB, went to L&CO Unisex Hair Studio in Aberdare, Wales.

Poppy's mum said: "Poppy’s hair has always been one of the biggest parts of her identity, saying ‘big hair don’t care’ and the thought that another child or young person will get to share that is such a heart warming feeling.

"22.2.22, all the twos, marks a new memory for the Lee-Burrowes."

Poppy's other mum, Beki LB, said: "We're so proud of her and all she's achieved on her fundraising journey.

"She LOVES her brand new look!"

On Poppy's fundraising page, she wrote: "It's taken me since I was about five, I have only ever had small trims in my life, never a big cut, so this is a big deal to me.

"I have wanted to do it for a long time, now I finally can.

"The money I will raise will be used for the Little Princess Trust, meaning children will be able to have wigs if they become ill and need them.

"This is very important to me.

"It costs £550 to make just one wig for a child. Please help me raise enough money to make one wig."

Poppy's fundraiser has raised enough money for almost four wigs.
