Disabling the Internal Siren on a Qolsys IQ Panel 2
In this video, Jarrett from Alarm Grid shows you how to disable the internal siren for a Qolsys IQ Panel 2. The panel's internal 85 dB siren will normally activate during intrusion and life-safety alarms. You can disable the siren so that it never activates and the system stays silent during alarms.
For most users, having the panel's siren activate during alarm events is an important feature. This is the best way to ensure that everyone in the building is alerted to a system alarm and knows to take action. However, some users might not want any sound to activate during alarm events. This can be particularly useful for intrusion alarms, as any intruders will not know that a system alarm has been triggered. But keep in mind that disabling the siren will turn off the sounder for all alarms, not just intrusion alarms. This is important, as nearly all users will want to have the siren activate during life-safety alarms like fire alarms and carbon monoxide alarms. But disabling the siren will stop all system alarms, regardless of type. This may make it more difficult for building occupants to be alerted to life-safety alarms that warrant immediate evacuation.
If you disable the siren on your IQ Panel 2 System, then the system will not make any sound during alarm events. However, a very clear and noticeable alarm message will still be displayed on the main system screen. This message will be visible until you clear the alarm on the system with a valid code. It is important to understand that just because the system's sounder doesn't activate, it doesn't change the fact that an alarm has occurred on the system. Alarm notifications will still be sent to the central station and/or Alarm.com depending on your monitoring plan. If you have automatic emergency dispatch set up with the central station, then the authorities will still be sent out during an alarm event.
Note: At 1:28, Jarrett says that you need to create an automation scene to use the Qolsys IQ Siren. That is not true. The siren will work with the system upon being enrolled as a Z-Wave device.
