Range on a Qolsys IQ Panel 2 Plus Security System
In this video, Jorge covers the wireless range for a Qolsys IQ Panel 2 Plus System. The wireless range for this system will depend on the sensors you are using with the system. The range will vary considerably depending on if you are working with PowerG Sensors, legacy RF sensors, or Z-Wave devices.
The Qolsys IQ Panel 2 Plus is a wireless all-in-one system, and you will more than likely be using several wireless devices with the system. Understanding the range for these devices can be very important for making sure that your system works properly. Out of all the security devices for a Qolsys IQ Panel 2 Plus, wireless PowerG Sensors will have the best range. These sensors can be used from up to 2,000 feet away from the IQ Panel 2 Plus System in open air. All versions of the IQ Panel 2 Plus can support PowerG Sensors.
Many IQ Panel 2 Plus users will supplement PowerG Sensors with legacy RF sensors. Determining the range for these devices can be a bit trickier. This is because there are three (3) different versions of the IQ Panel 2 Plus, and each version supports a different legacy frequency. The range can differ between different manufacturers and different wireless devices. It is best to check with the product specifications for any legacy RF sensor to determine its range. The 319.5 MHz version of the IQ Panel 2 Plus will support legacy Qolsys and legacy Interlogix Sensors. The 345 MHz version will support legacy Honeywell 5800 Sensors and legacy 2GIG 345 MHz Sensors. The 433 MHz version will support legacy DSC Wireless Sensors. The range for legacy RF sensors typically variest between 100 and 300 feet nominal, but there some that will work from even further away. Check the product specifications for the device you are working with to find the true expected range.
Lastly, you may use some Z-Wave devices with your IQ Panel 2 Plus for automation. The range for a Z-Wave Plus device is about 50 to 60 feet between signal hops, and the range for classic Z-Wave is about 30 to 40 feet between hops. By making up to four (4) signal hops and improving your Z-wave mesh network, you can greatly increase the total range of your Z-Wave devices. Keep in mind the figures we presented here are fairly conservative, and you may find that your Z-Wave devices work from even further away when used in an open air environment.
