The Keypad Tamper Lockout Feature on the Lyric Security System

In this video, Joe from Alarm Grid talks about the keypad tamper lockout feature for a Honeywell Lyric Security System. The feature is designed to prevent any "brute force" entry into the system. If you enter too many numeric keys without providing a valid code, then the feature will go into effect.

The keypad tamper lockout feature goes into effect if thirty (30) numeric keys are entered into the panel within a 15 minute period without ever entering a valid code. Once the feature has gone into effect, no additional numeric key inputs will be accepted for the next 15 minutes. Entering any numeric key during this time will result in a long error tone from the panel. The purpose of this feature is to prevent anyone from trying a bunch of random codes to force their way into the system. The feature cannot be disabled.

The most common reason why this feature goes into effect is because the user cannot remember their code, and they try a bunch of incorrect codes in order to get in. Once the feature has taken effect and you hear the long error tone, the only way to operate the system is to use a wireless key fob or the Total Connect 2.0 service. You will also not be able to trigger any system panic functions from the panel.

This lockout also often goes into effect because of a misunderstanding of how the Guest Code or Babysitter Code functions. The Guest Code can only disarm the system if it was the code used to arm the system in the first place. If you give a visitor the Guest Code so that they can disarm the system, make sure that same Guest Code was used to arm the system originally. If you try to use the Guest Code to disarm when a different code was used to arm, then the code will not work.
