Muting the Honeywell 5828V Wireless Keypad
In this video, Jorge shows users how to mute the Honeywell 5828V Wireless Keypad by using the Mute Keypad Status Announcements command. Doing this will mute the device's voice function. However, touch-button tones will still be produced. The system will still announce Arming status is it is enabled.
The Honeywell 5828V is a Fixed English Keypad that makes for a great addition to a Honeywell LYNX Touch System or a Honeywell VISTA System with an added wireless transceiver. The keypad cannot be used for deep system programming, but it can serve as a secondary system access point. This is often done on larger properties where an end user might want to have multiple locations for accessing their system. For example, a user might have their main LYNX Touch Panel by their front door and then a 5828V Keypad by their back door for easy access.
The "V" in the name Honeywell 5828V stands for "Voice". This is because this keypad is capable of voice annunciation. The keypad will speak out the Arming status when the user goes to Arm or Disarm their system. Some users might find this to be redundant, especially if the main panel also have voice capabilities and already speaks out the Arming status. For these users, they can mute the keypad.
By muting the keypad, the device will no longer speak out voice annunciations. However, it will still emit tones when buttons are pressed. Muting the keypad will not affect the volume or the voice settings for the main panel. If a user wants to un-mute the 5828V Keypad, they can simply increase or decrease its volume. This can be done at any time.
Note: Jorge incorrectly states that the 5828V Keypad can be used with a VISTA System if a Honeywell 5881ENH is added. This is not true, as the 5881ENH cannot send signals to the keypad. It can only receive signals. Instead, a wireless transceiver module is needed. A good standalone module to use is the Honeywell 5883H. It is also possible to use a Honeywell 6160RF Keypad for this purpose. The 6160RF makes for a great primary keypad, since it is Alphanumeric.
