In the northern parts of Ethiopia is an alien landscape that is home to the hottest place on earth.
Getting to such a place requires an expedition team complete with jeeps, camels and lots of water. Deep within the Danakil Desert is the Dallol hot springs, which are a one of a kind. Abandoned settlements can be seen on the outskirts which is no surprise as this area holds the records for the highest average temperature on earth for an inhabitable place. Between 1960 and 1966 Dallol averaged 95 degrees fahrenheit or 35 degrees celsius. During this time the temperature would reach up to 120 or 50 degrees. Not only being the hottest place on the planet it is also one of the most remote. Paved roads are being put in by the villages but jeeps and camel caravans are still essential and are used today to collect salt from the area.
