China's Fake Eiffel Tower

China is known for knocking off products, inventions and new technology but on this episode we cover China’s Fake Eiffel Tower.

Located in Tianducheng or Sky City a suburb of Hangzhou China is not only a replica of the Eiffel tower but living quarters, gardens and statues.

Tianducheng was built in 2007 featuring the 354 foot or 108 meter tall Eiffel tower replica which is about ⅓ the size of the original. They had planned initially for 10,000 residents in this fake paris, but early on no one would move here. Developers targeted wealthy Chinese with the lure of living in Paris but much like the ghost city Ordos we covered in a previous video, it has taken much time for a small population of people to move in. Around 10,000 by 2013 called this place home and by 2017 and estimated 30,000 have moved in.
