China, a leader in manufacturing and production of products has their own Amazon like website but is primarily run by robots. This company called Aliexpress, located in Huiyang in Guangdong province China, not only caters to China but to the rest of the world. Shipping millions of products a year requires a warehouse that measure 32000 sq feet or 3000 square meters in size. It would take an army of people to run such a facility but china decided to create giant sized roombas to do the work for them. Called Zhu Que, the robots look like the robotic vacuum cleaners but are able to lift 1100 lbs or 500 kg. Instead of a human factory worker going throughout the isles seeking a product to be shipped a handful of human workers remain at stations when an order comes in. The robots receive instructions via wifi at which point one of them travels at 3 mph or 5 km/h to the storage rack, picks it up and brings it to the shipping station. After the product is received the robot receives a message the delivery is complete and will return the storage rack back to where it got it.

This is all possible thanks to the artificial intelligence and smart communication between the robots. They have collision avoidance laser sensors and allow right of way to other robots to prevent running into each other. Able to rotate 360 degrees on the spot these robots are effective at retrieving products and can operate for 4 to 5 hours on a single charge. When their batteries are low they’ll automatically dock themselves and charge their batteries which only takes 5 minutes. 70% of the factory’s employees are made up of these robots, 60 of them to be exact.
