Using a 2GIG Go!Control w/o Monitoring

In this video, Dylan talks about using a 2GIG Go!Control GC2 System without alarm monitoring service. Without monitoring, the GC2 will only serve as a local sounder. It will have no way of sending outbound signals to alert the end user or a central monitoring station to an alarm event on the system.

A GC2 System that does not receive alarm monitoring services can still be programmed and set up with various security sensors. The system can also be armed and disarmed like normal. If an alarm event occurs, a siren can still be activated to alert on-site building occupants to the situation. As a result, an unmonitored system can be very useful for users who are almost always on-site and do not benefit greatly from automatic emergency dispatch or text and email notifications. It is also possible for the user to control Z-Wave devices locally from the panel, and home automation scenes can be created as normal.

But if a user plans on being off-site from the building for any extended period of time, they should strongly consider getting alarm monitoring service for their home or business. With alarm monitoring, a security system will send outbound alerts during an alarm event. If the user has a self-monitoring plan, these alerts will be sent to their phone and/or email so that they can contact the appropriate authorities on their own. But if a user has a central station monitoring plan, they can receive automatic emergency dispatch from a monitoring station that is active 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Alarm monitoring also allows users to connect with an interactive service platform. In the case of the 2GIG GC2, this would be the Alarm.com service. Alarm.com allows users to arm and disarm their system, check the current status of security sensors and control Z-Wave home automation devices. Alarm.com also has a mobile app so that these actions can be performed remotely.
