Add a Honeywell GSMX4G to a VISTA Security System

In this video, Dylan explains the process for adding a Honeywell GSMX4G to a Honeywell VISTA Alarm System. The GSMX4G is a cellular communicator that will allow a Honeywell VISTA System to connect with the AT&T 4G Cellular Network. This module will provide fast and consistent cellular communication.

The communicator draws power directly from the panel using a 4-wire ECP connection through ECP terminals 4 thru 7. It can also use power from a continuous 24-hour battery to avoid drawing from the system. The device is somewhat unique in that it does not have a tamper switch. If the cover for the device is ever opened, the system will not display a tamper trouble condition. This is somewhat surprising, as nearly every system sensor and add-on has some type of tamper switch for this function.

In order to use the Honeywell GSMX4G, the user must have an alarm monitoring plan that includes cellular communication. Alarm Grid customers can get this capability through our Gold and Platinum level monitoring plans. This communicator will connect the system with the AT&T 4G cellular network. AT&T will charge the alarm monitoring company a fee for providing the cellular service. The monitoring company, such as Alarm Grid, will then usually pass this fee onto the customer as a part of their monitoring plan. That is why cellular monitoring plans typically cost a little bit more.

But the benefits to cellular monitoring cannot be overstated. Cellular communication is the most reliable communication path available for an alarm system. This because cell service almost never goes down or becomes unavailable. It is also unaffected by power outages. The same cannot be said for WIFI communication, which often goes down for seemingly no reason and is dependent upon electricity. Cellular also offers fast communication speeds, so user can expect a prompt response whenever an alarm signal is sent out. Cellular connectivity will also allow the system to work with Total Connect 2.0.
