Using a 2GIG GC3 W:O Monitoring

In this video, Jorge talks about using a 2GIG GC3 System without alarm monitoring services. If a GC3 System does not receive any active monitoring, then it will only be able to be used as a local sounder. This means that it will be able to produce sounds to alert on-site occupants to a system alarm.

Alarm monitoring is needed for a system to send outbound signals in the event of an alarm. These signals can be sent to a central monitoring station or directly to the end user, depending upon their alarm monitoring plan. If a user has central station monitoring, they can receive automatic emergency dispatch in the event of an alarm. But if a user only receives their own alerts, then it will be up to them to contact the necessary authorities.

With monitoring, it is possible to receive alerts from an alarm system through text or email. The signals will be passed through an interactive service, like Alarm.com. The interactive service will then forward the alerts onto the end user so that they can contact the authorities if necessary. This is known as self-monitoring. It should not be confused with central station monitoring, where an end user can receive automatic dispatch from a central station.

But without monitoring, a system will not be able to send any outbound alerts. It can still produce audible local alarms and perform on-site home automation control, but that is about it. A user will also not be able to use any interactive service, such as Alarm.com. If a user does want monitoring service, they will need to contact an alarm monitoring company and sign up for an alarm monitoring plan.

Remember, a panel will need to be able to send outbound signals to receive monitoring service. In the case of the GC3, it can use WIFI communication, or a cellular communicator can be added for cellular communication. But if no monitoring service is being used, then it will not be necessary to connect the system to WIFI, and a cellular communicator will not need to be purchased.
