When Will the Lyric CDMA Be Phased Out?
In this video, Jorge talks about the Verizon CDMA cellular network and when it will be put out of service by Verizon. For simplicity sake, the CDMA network is roughly the equivalent to the "3G" networks from other providers. The network is being replaced by their newer and more advanced LTE network.
In order to connect to a cellular network, an alarm system (or any device) needs to have a cellular communicator. The Honeywell Lyric Controller Security System is no exception to this rule. The panel does not come with a communicator by default, but one can be easily added to the system. The Lyric Controller has an easily accessible port on its right side for the purpose.
The communicator that is inserted into this port determines which cellular network the system will access. One particular communicator connects the system to the Verizon CDMA network. This is still a very popular communicator for this system, even though the CDMA network is set to be discontinued in the coming years. But it is important to remember that once the CDMA network is discontinued, the communicator will no longer work, and it will need to be replaced.
The CDMA communicator is currently the most advanced Verizon cellular communicator offered for the Honeywell Lyric Controller. Verizon has stated that they plan to release an LTE communicator for the Lyric Controller. LTE stands for "Long Term Evolution", and it provides faster and more reliable connections than the CDMA and GSM networks. However, there is still no Verizon LTE communicator available at this time. But AT&T has released an LTE communicator for the Lyric Controller, the LYRICLTE-A.
We generally encourage customers to purchase the LYRICLTE-A for the Honeywell Lyric Controller. This communicator will connect them to the ultra-fast and reliable AT&T LTE cellular network. The LYRICLTE-A will also "future-proof" an alarm system, as the LTE networks are expected to remain in service for decades. But if the AT&T network simply does not work in a user's area for whatever reason, they can go with the Verizon CDMA communicator instead. But they should keep in mind that the Verizon CDMA network will be shut down in the coming years.
