Many Christians think that earthly success will bring them happiness. This is a prevalent idea that has still yet to be purged out of the church. It is crazy. Many wealthy people are miserable. The things that make people happy are not material. Sure. a material thing can bring a moment of pleasure, but that joy is soon gone. We have all experienced that waning of pleasure.

Christians must understand that it is not earthly things they get in life that make them happy, but what they become in Christ Jesus that makes them ultimately happy. Instead of fighting this idea, we must embrace this idea.

Part of the trick here is that a Christians heart must truly be set on God and developing spiritual Christian values. The person that became a Christian to get God to support their personal agenda is missing the point of Christian. They do not yet understand Romans 12:1, "Present you body a living sacrifice."
