Amazon KDP Expanded Distribution is worth it, or is it?

I use KDP Expanded Distribution for specific books. Books that I feel would make great additions to most bookshops. I don't use expanded distribution (wide, as I call it) for low content books. It's an excellent idea for the right books, as big retailers look for independent publishers like us because there are no ties to traditional publishers and tons of legal issues. I can understand that. At the same time, it gives us independents a chance to hit the big time.
