Historic Ayutthaya- 4 Foreign settlements and what they look like now

In this video we explore part of the history of Ayutthaya Thailand. The former capital city used to be one of the largest cities in the world and was a city open to global trade. With trading came envoys from places like China, France, England, Japan and other countries. There were over 40 different settlements of different counties in the city that helped facilitate international trade. Small villages were established that added to the culture of Ayutthaya with food, customs and countless other ways. This ended when the city was captured and destroyed by the Burmese in 1767. When the city was destroyed the inhabitants fled to Tonburi and Bangkok. Many of the foreign population did also while others left Thailand completely and didn’t return for decades. I show you around what is left of the Japanese, Dutch, Portuguese and the French church of Saint Joseph. The remains of the English, Chinese and other settlements is completely gone which is unfortunate because they added to the character of the once amazing city.
