Head of Campaigns from the Institute of Race Relations Gabriel Crouse Crouse says the black top ten 10% is earning one-quarter of all South African wealth whereas the black bottom 40% is earning less than 4% of all wealth. Likewise in the white group, "Of course, the proportion of white people living in squatter camps, begging on the side of the road is much smaller but no South African who has travelled around can be surprised to see a white homeless person.
