Why Noah Cursed Canaan and not Ham

If it were Ham who uncovered Noah's nakedness in Genesis 9, why did Noah curse his grandson Canaan? If it were Ham who had uncovered Noah's nakedness, shouldn't Noah have cursed him instead of Canaan? And what does "uncover his father's nakedness actually mean in Scripture? Scripture must be studied, not just read, and it must be rightly divided to understand the truth of God's written word.
