12 years prison for Willie Nash for a cell phone? How is that possible?

Willie Nash was in jail for a misdemeanor. While their, he asked for "juice" for his cell phone. Apparently, Nash was able to get the phone into the prison despite a strip search (real thorough there guys ...). Rather than the state admit to messing up, the government prosecuted and sentenced Nash to TWELVE YEARS in prison for possession of the cell phone.
