Scofield: Wrongly Dividing the Word of Truth

This sermon was preached by Pastor Sam Adams on 10/14/12 at Independence Baptist Church in Belleview, Florida. This is the second of four messages in the series titled "Heresies in the Scofield Bible". Bible text: 2 Timothy
2:14
-16. Since 1909 the Scofield Reference Bible has enjoyed great popularity, even adopted by many fundamental Christian churches as their "pew Bible." While some have set out to expose the many serious heresies therein, including multiple modes of salvation in various ages and dismissal of Christ's teachings as irrelevant to the church, they did so from a preterist, amillennial position that was as flawed as Scofield's. This series of messages refutes the hyper-dispensational, escapist brand of premillennialism that Scofield popularized from the more balanced premillennial perspective of the apostles and early church.

Part 2 of this series continues Part 1's general summary and refutation of the foundation for C.I. Scofield's many heresies, that being his schismatic division and compartmentalization of the Bible in the extreme into 7 separate dispensations, failing to see the Bible as it is: a unified, organic statement of God's will for mankind. The message explains how the dispensation of grace began, not at the cross, but at the fall of Adam; and also explains how the law was NOT nullified at the cross, but continues in effect as a schoolmaster to lead sinners to Christ.

2:15
, "rightly dividing the word of truth," DOES mean to divide or separate; but the verse in context says we are to separate the Bible, NOT into various parts, but FROM false teachings; from "profane and vain babblings" that lead to ungodliness; from the false teachings of men like C.I. Scofield and the hyper-dispensational heretic Peter Ruckman, whose profane and vain babblings are also addressed in this message.
