Gripen E : New FAB Fighter Performs First Flight

The new #FAB fighter, #Gripen E, will make its maiden flight.
Brazil has ordered 36 units of the first model of the aircraft to arrive in the country in 2019.

This Thursday (15th), #SAAB made its first flight of Gripen E, a new fighter equipped with the Brazilian Air Force (FAB). The aircraft took off from the manufacturer's airfield in Linköping, Sweden, flew for 40 minutes, and returned safely. During the test, the plane performed a series of evaluations, including the retreat and extension of the landing gear.

The aircraft development program is "on track" and the first units will be delivered to Brazil and Sweden from 2019, according to a statement by Jonas Jerm, Vice President of Business Areas at Saab.

In October 2014, #Brazil signed a US $ 5.4 billion contract to purchase 36 new-generation Gripen fighters. Sweden, another confirmed customer of military aircraft, will acquire 60 aircraft, also known as Gripen NG.

The agreement signed between Brazil and Sweden also provides for technology transfer to Brazilian industry. Some of the batches of fighters ordered for the FAB will be manufactured in Brazil by Embraer, a process that has already begun.
