V2V 2021 DAY 14: Sammie Renfrow "Following My Dreams in the 'Happy Van Castle' After Tragedy"

Sammie was born in Baton Rouge Louisiana. After moving back to Wyoming after high school, her son was tragically killed in an auto accident at the age of 21. Life was never the same. Her daughter and son and Sammie were extremely close and this devastated both of them. However, as a mom, she knew she had to stay strong and be there for my daughter as she was not going to survive this tragedy without her mom.

Sixteen years later, she had an awakening, and for the next year and a half, she learned how to truly grieve and live again. She had always taken lots of photos from high school and all the way through her kids’ childhood but never considered it anything more than snapping family and/or landscape pictures. In the past 3 years, she has found her true love of being behind the lens. It is a form of meditation. She gets lost behind the lens for hours and days at a time. This medium has helped her to heal and continues to provide solace.

“I get to practice and live this craft and hopefully capture a few great shots along the way that will touch someone who needs to see and feel the beauty that surrounds us,” says Sammie.
