The Russian Central Bank pegged Rubles to Gold. Russia declared they would only sell OIL and GAS in Rubles. This means Russian OIL and GAS are pegged to Gold with Rubles as the proxy for Gold. Europe (that needs Russian Gas and Oil) will now have to buy Rubles from Russia using gold or pay for the Oil and Gas with Gold itself. It is the beginning of the world money war. Most people, if asked to prove that the earth is round, would not even bother to produce the rather weak arguments I have outlined above. They would start off by saying that ‘everyone knows’ the earth to be round, and if pressed further, would become angry. In a way Shaw is right. This is a credulous age, and the burden of knowledge which we now have to carry is partly responsible.
