Hypocrisy on Display

Hypocrisy is defined as the practice of claiming to have moral standards or beliefs to which one's own behavior does not conform; pretense. (Oxford) The Jewish leaders are prime examples of this as, with the hatred of a wicked plot in their hearts, they refuse to se foot on the palace grounds of Pilate because they would defile themselves.
