How to Lose Fat & Build Muscle (AT THE SAME TIME!!)
Can you lose fat and build muscle at the same time? The answer is YES! That is, if you have the proper plan... This is possible by following a few simple principles that work with your body's natural chemistry to help you get ripped, while also maintaining or building muscle mass.
When you are trying to build muscle, it can be tempting to think that you can only do so with a high calorie diet - but that's simply not true. And on the other hand, when you are trying to lose weight, you'll need a lower calorie intake - which is true. If your goal is body recomposition (i.e., burning fat while building muscle), then you'll need a lower-calorie diet with an emphasis on protein in order for your muscles to grow as well as lose fat.
The goal is to get into the appropriate calorie deficit. If the calorie deficit is too deep, then building muscle mass won't be possible. If it's too shallow, then fat loss will be minimal. You need to find the perfect balance! From there, we're going to cover optimizing and staggering your calorie deficit for both training days and "off days". This will help to maximize your muscle building and fat loss workout performance. Additionally, carb intake will play an interesting role in also aiding in your workout performance.
Next comes the protein. In order to build muscle while simultaneously losing fat, your protein intake will be very important! Even if you nail your calorie deficit, and your training is perfect; not getting the proper daily protein intake will make your body recomposition incredibly difficult.
And when it comes to our training, we need to not just focus on getting in a killer resistance work out with weights. We'll also need cardio, both high intensity cardio (such as HIIT), as well as daily "cardio" that will be more manageable to recover from; even in a calorie deficit.
