Can get two hits off the start. However, the point is not to do too much damage, but just enough to stagger him before stage two split. Otherwise, he splits before you can do your critical hit. This makes the fight longer. So on my build I took off the claw talisman and put on a stamina. Once he gets staggered you can get off 3 jump attacks. This will leave him with next to nothing.

The issue after is dealing with his twin. Not as easy and hard to separate. I tried beating them on foot but problem is the terrain and oftentimes found myself dodging into an obstacle or off the cliff! Also could use my shortbow, but again the obstacle issue so decided to make it easier on myself and got on horseback.
