My Artist Biography
Klanderud received his classical training at the Schuler School of Fine Arts in Baltimore, Maryland, where he completed the school’s rigorous atelier program. He studied oil painting and traditional watercolor under Ann Didusch Schuler, Russell W. Gordon, Carol Lee Thompson, Will Wilson, and Fritz Briggs, while training in sculpture directly with Hans Schuler, from whom he learned a powerful Rodin-inspired approach to modeling the human figure in clay and direct carving in stone.
A U.S. Navy civilian and Army Engineer veteran with credentials from NAWDC, TOPGUN, SEAWOLF, RWWS, and NSA programs, Klanderud spent decades as a civilian Audiovisual Production Specialist and Multimedia Producer for the Department of Defense. His classified work for the National Security Agency included forensic audio capture, enhancement, and decoding of intercepted communications involving Vladimir Putin, Kim Jong Il, and senior PLA leadership, contributing directly to high-level intelligence products. Uniquely spans the evolution of American space security, from foundational work in NSA Weapons And Space intelligence and simulation at the National Security Agency to serving with NSA SWAT and which attributed to the U.S. Space Force at its inception.
While based in Tokyo, Japan, he also worked as a producer and director for television commercials and advertising campaigns, contributed advanced 3D CAD modeling to safety-critical systems for nuclear power plants, and has since become a vocal advocate for thorium-based nuclear energy solutions.
Profoundly influenced by the late still-life paintings of the Northern Renaissance masters, he brings exceptional virtuosity to all of his work. He stretches and primes his own canvases, handcrafts frames, grinds pigments, and frequently employs Maroger medium for luminous, layered oil paintings, while continuing to sculpt in clay and stone with the same meticulous craftsmanship.
In recent years Klanderud has fused his classical foundation with the forefront of generative technology. A pioneer in AI-driven art and video, he commands Leonardo, Midjourney, OpenArt, Grok Imagine, Kling, Higgsfield Diffuse, Suno, and advanced upscaling and animation workflows. His digital practice spans cinematic AI video, 3D modeling, VR/XR environments, and fully functional Neuralink-era brain-computer interface prototypes, generative multimedia, and immersive simulation design.
His fabrication skills remain formidable: an artisan-level welder fluent in MIG, stick, and precision techniques, he has contributed to James Cameron’s deep-ocean programs by fabricating and welding components for underwater ROVs used in Mariana Trench and Titanic expeditions. He is equally proficient in precision machining and 3D printing.
His past hobbies have encompassed Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA), expert slinging and rifle marksmanship, shattering multiple NES and Sega world records—surpassing those for Contra and Super Contra by three to five times—as well as innovative hydroponic gardening through Kratky-to-soil transitions and water cloning propagation.
Working across oil painting, watercolor, sculpture, AI-generated video, digital art, virtual reality, and advanced fabrication, Klanderud stands as a singular Renaissance technologist whose classical mastery and command of emerging technologies continue to advance in parallel.
