Description
I Am The Legendary, The Notorious Doctor Crasher!!!
In 1979, after seeing The Movie Colossus: The Forbin Project, my life was forever changed... Determined, I soon afterwards acquired, modified and built my first computer...
In The 1980's, with The Commodore 64 Computer, I Ruled The World of Telecommunications as The Notorious Doctor Crasher...
Software Pirate, Music Pirate, Cable TV Pirate, VCR Pirate, Phone Phreak, Carder, Hacker and Systems Crasher, I and my Organization of Bandits called The Codebusters became the largest Software Game Collection and Distribution Pirates in West Texas with Connections throughout North America and Canada...
We were young Teenagers full of Life and Joy with a Taste of Power and Control not known to Common Citizens... Our Kind were the stuff of Movies, Books and Legends...
*****************
By the way... If you're wondering WHERE my name Doctor Crasher came from, well, here's the story...
At the turn of the 80's, a handful of my Friends and Associates snuck around BBS's doing things we shouldn't be doing and we all had Alias Handles to remain Anonymous.
We were all fairly NEW to the Scene and were each looking for and working on our own Identities discovering our quirks, gifts and talents...
Calling other Folks and other Computers outside of our Phones Area Codes was considered Long Distance calling back in those days and cost money to do. It wasn't hard to rack up an expensive Phone Bill if you weren't careful.
We knew Public Schools, Colleges and Universities including Major Companies and Government Systems had their own internal system of networks used to communicate to each other throughout other Cities and States utilizing the phone lines also.
We would gain access through Telnet Systems and try to find Unix Systems to either hack or set up our own Shell Accounts to which we could use to Communicate and share Programs among each other and thus, not having to pay expensive phone costs...
Both Fortunately and Unfortunately I had a unique gift of "Accidently" bringing down Computer Systems and Networks without even trying. Call it a unique gift of breaking things. LOL!!! Imagine that... Pffff
It was GOOD in that those days, there were factions of other competing hacker groups who would get into a pissing contest and actually "War" with each other. When our group was attacked, I was one of those who went out and attacked THEIR Systems and brought them down and I was VERY good at it.. They usually didn't have much security and those systems back then were very volatile next to systems nowadays.
Where it was BAD was when our gang found a nice little System to hack and set up both a communication and game storage outlet. We would spend HOURS or DAYS doing so. Sometimes the guys would ask ME to help assist them and sure enough, every once and awhile I would "Accidently" do "Something" wrong resulting in crashing those systems... All that work put in gone to shit...
"Yo Bud way to go asshole, you CRASHED the System... What tha hell did you do???" Shit Dudes... Apologies... I tried doing "This" to make "That" work and I fucked up... Yeahhhh
SO... It looked like I had a talent for Systems Crashing... In other words, I was known as a CRASHER...
And just by chance one night as I was working on some Coding, there was an episode playing of DOCTOR WHO on the TV set, in particular, the 4th Doctor himself TOM BAKER fucking around with the Daleks... Then, it all came together...
Thus was born: DOCTOR CRASHER...
And from then on, that's how I've always been known... With bouts of also being called "The Beyonder" here and there, I mostly stuck with DOCTOR CRASHER...
As time went on, shortly in the early 1980's I migrated over to THE MIGHTY COMMODORE 64 COMPUTER leaving behind my trusty NORTHSTAR HORIZEN COMPUTER... The Commodore 64 was more popular and had more games than any other known systems at that time...
SOON in Odessa, Texas where I lived, a NEW COMMODORE USER GROUP was created where folks all over the Region could come, learn and share their experiences with their Commodore 64 Computers. I was there at the FIRST MEETING of a New User Group called CUGO: COMMODORE USERS GROUP of ODESSA...
And it was THERE where I met other "LIKE MINDED" Fellow Software Pirates and we got along great!!! In Fact, after several meetings, some of us all got together one weekend to COPY and SHARE Video Games and Programs "WAREZ" among each other... Nice Pizza Party with Good Music, lots of laughs and Fun...
Software Companies back then would "CODE" their Disks and Software with Copy Protection Schemes in order to PREVENT Software Piracy... Well GUESS WHAT??? We looked at that as a CHALLENGE and started developing ways to BYPASS their Systems....
While we were at the Party Copying Games, I was busy trying to bypass the copy protections of some of the Games we had and I was hitting Home Run's in doing so!!! BAM BAM BAM another one bites the dust...
I yelled out "I LOVE BUSTING CODES"!!!!
Then one of my friends yelled out and asked "Who Ya Gonna Call"??? Then we all yelled "CODEBUSTERS!!!"
And THUS was the BEGINNING of our NEW PIRATE ORGANIZATION: THE CODEBUSTERS...
We set up a BBS "Bulletin Board System" to establish relations with other BBS's and people in the community calling into our computers, eager to share their GAMES and INFO with us which led to me BUILDING A SOFTWARE DISTRIBUTION NETWORK which grew into the largest one in our Region...
We came up with methods to BYPASS the Long Distance Phone Call Charges so our people could call and get games from other BBS's around the nation... I even started to reach out to OTHER USER GROUPS around the Nation which were listed in the back of our Computer Magazines and started a GAME SHARING NETWORK of Mailing out Disks Full of Games to others and in Return getting Games from them ALL THROUGH the USPS and UPS Hahaha LOL!!!
Of course, time went by and after High School going into College, it all pretty much faded away as PC COMPUTER SYSTEMS like the IBM PC's started getting popular and Commodore's Systems started to fade... We considered upgrading to THE COMMODORE AMIGA but I decided not to as I saw THE FUTURE WAS THE x86 based PC's....
Of course, after College and University Years then started the "WORK AT A JOB" Years which left little time for my Fun Young Adult Criminal Activity.. But here and there I always collected things...
In Fact, till this very day, I'm somewhat a Minimalist, not really enjoying actually BUYING Gaming Cartridges for Gaming Consoles or Software but instead COLLECTING Software among other forms of "Non Physical Things"...
As time goes on in my Older Age, I am working on Collecting ALL of those Systems and Software Games that I had when I was young... It kinda holds me together remembering the fun times I had as Life continues to take Family and Friends away from me and I keep losing all those I loved... Hard, Bitter, Hurtful times these are, YET.... They are still full of FUN, EXCITEMENT and ADVENTURE!!!
REMEMBER THE GOOD TIMES!!!
CONTINUE MAKING GOOD TIMES!!!
KEEP HOPE ALIVE!!!
KEEP THE TORCH LIT!!!!
PASS ON YOU LEGACY into the Hands of those who CONTINUE the JOURNEY and PASS ON THEIR LEGACIES!!!
