DIY Macro Rig for Watch Parts Photography
In this video I demonstrate a rig I made at the request of a viewer to show how easy it is to make your own rig for extreme macro photography of vintage watches and parts.
It consists of the following:
Canon M6 Mark II
Canon M to EF Mount Adapter (Vello Auto Lens Adapter for Canon EF/EF-S Lens to Canon EOS M Camera System or equivalent from Canon)
KENKO Extension Tubes
Canon 100mm EF USM 1:2.8 Macro Lens
Canon Macro Ring Light Strobe MR-14EX
The camera is mounted on a baseplate with attached upright 15mm rod. Standard 15mm rod accessories are used to mount the camera, lens supports, and camera controller on the rod. The 15 rod and accessories are no-brand items from my rigging kits. There are many 15mm rods on B&H's website, Aliexpress, etc. You could also try using a copy stand for holding the camera.
The camera controller is something that I made myself that saves the images to a NAS, but you can also just tether the camera to any computer using a USB cable and Canon's Remote Control / Tethering software.
