Weight Fluctuations: DONT FREAK OUT!!!

The scale is a wonderful tool but it’s just that, a tool. Tools are only as accurate as they are designed to be and then, only as much as they’re properly calibrated.

The Wal-Mart scale you and I have is far from the most accurate however it’s extremely useful to show trends, especially if you use the same scale, same time of the day the best time being immediately upon waking and using the bathroom.

Some days it says a number we like others it doesn’t but why some days do we have these massive 3+ pound fluctuations?

Consider your sodium intake. Did you eat a lot of processed food? Did you heavily salt a few meals? Did you eat some combination of sweet and salty in abundance?

Next consider fiber content. Veggies are great and have a ton of nutrients for minimal calories but they do take up room and can slow down the movement of everything in the GI tract.

Lastly, stress or rather, the lack of its resolution. If you don’t sleep enough, or your sleep quality is junk, it will effect those first 2 things as well as impact your ability to lose weight, gain muscle or whatever you’re trying to do. You need to sleep folks. I’m a Military (and now Construction) guy so I’m used to functioning off of minimal sleep. That’s FAR from ideal however. When I can, I try to get to bed as early as possible, so in spite of my early days, I get plenty of sleep.

Don’t freak out at the scale. It’s doing you a favor by letting you know YOU’RE doing something wrong and it’s probably that you aren’t sleeping enough.

Sleep folks. As much as your life allows. Plan for your sleep with as much diligence as your training and diet.
