Bordeaux (/bɔːrˈdoʊ/ bor-DOH, French: [bɔʁdo] ⓘ; Gascon Occitan: Bordèu [buɾˈðɛw]) is a city on the river Garonne in the Gironde department, southwestern France. A port city, it is the capital of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, as well as the prefecture of the Gironde department. Its inhabitants are called "Bordelais" (masculine) or "Bordelaises" (feminine). The term "Bordelais" may also refer to the city and its surrounding region. In 1993 I cycled from Chester England to Biarritz in the Southwest of France in 13 days. I went through Bourdeaux where I had a puncture. I did not have time to explore the city at the time. So, in 2016 I decided to head back there to take a look around. Its a great city with great people. And the hostel I stayed at was the best. Right by the river. I have been there a few times since. Chris Summerfield video and photography sine 1992.
