Post-Conditioning Pressing & Accessories

First up for pressing was incline dumbbells like usual. I did a ramp up set the. Got into my working sets. One of my favorite ways to train to build work capacity is to do low rep ranges but with MANY sets. It’s less important for the Tactical Athlete to express true 1-Rep maximal strength as opposed to reliable, repeatable strength under sub-optimal conditions. There are few better ways to cultivate this sort of work capacity than multiple doubles or triples in a fatigued state. I’ve done as many as 15 sets in the past but I shut it down at 10 triples this session. A key consideration is to err on the side of caution with loading since the total aggregate volume is still pretty decent. That said, those triple were cake so I think it’s time to bump things up next week

Next, in contrast I did several sets of “Louie’s” or barbell pushups. Contrast in the angle of press as a slight decline vs the previous incline dumbbells but also in volume with sets of 20+ reps each

Next, as a pressing accessory I threw in some machine lateral raises, splitting the difference in rep ranges with sets at 10+ each

Last, as a finisher I threw in some direct tricep work in the form of close-grip cable pushdowns with the EZ-Curl attachment. I normally do these in the 15+ rep range but my elbows felt good today so I went a bit heavier and did 10+ rep sets
