Two Quarter Repeaters: Emile Guers à Genève Continental Repeater and Stolz Freres Swiss Pat. 18282

On Saturday Arafat told me that I could take a beautiful quarter repeater movement of his and see what I could do with it. In this video I compare it with a continental quarter repeater that I had previously purchased on ricardo and I try to figure out how one of the loose parts that came with it may or may not activate the repeater function.

The first thing that I noticed about Arafat's movement was that it had a Swiss patent number on it: 18282. This allowed me to look up that patent number and see that one of the improvements in the movement was patented by Stolz Freres (Stolz brothers) in Le Locle, Switzerland in 1899. This dates the movement to after 1899, and since the Stolz Brothers created the brand Angelus in 1902, this gave me two brand names to search in addition to the patent number to try to find additional information about the movement.

The problem with pocket watch movements is that many of the cases have been melted down for their gold or silver, which means that movements are easier to find than cases. In the case of this Stolz Freres movement, I need the correct case to get it working properly because the repeater pusher needs to be fixed to a button on the case.
